Green Drinks RULE!
While playing around in the kitchen this summer I discovered what might be the yummiest (and healthiest) green drink I have made yet!
It’s a heavenly alkalizing green coconut milk shake. Full of protein, good fats, minerals and delicious, rich, creamy, icy flavor — this is a filling yet cleansing breakfast treat in the summer!
And best yet, for those not ready for pure green juice without the fruit (which can be sugary), this is a great way to get your greens while still satisfying the craving for a sweet and creamy indulgence. I would have this for dessert it’s so delicious!
Ingredients
1 1/2 Cup Pure Fresh Green Juice with no fruit. Check out the first part of this blog entry to get ideas.
1 1/2 Cup Raw Nut Milk (can be almond, brazil nut, pine nut, macadamia or a combo!) Check out the second part of this blog to learn how to make nut milk. Until you get a nut milk bag for straining, a panty hose knee sock will do the trick!
2 Tbsp organic hemp seeds (Nutiva is a great brand)
1 handful of organic spinach
1 heaping Tbsp Coconut Manna/coconut butter
1 tsp cinnamon to taste and for garnish
½ tsp himalayan sea salt (Real Salt is a great brand)
6-8 ice cubes (or freeze coconut water or coconut milk into ice cube trays for an even creamier/sweeter taste and tecture)
Dash of raw green stevia powder

Blend everything in a Vitamix or Blendtec for best results, however a regular blender may work fine too. I promise, you’ll sigh a satisfied, “ahh” after every succulent slushy slurp!

Hi Amy,
I love receiving your news letters and following your creative blog! Thanks for inspiring me! I have an outdated professional yoga/fitness website (www.moonstoneyoga.net) and I am looking to start fresh with a new template and update my latest experiences and growth. I am wondering if you have a website hosting site recommendation? Do you do your own web design or hire someone? Thanks for you time. Namaste!
Mary
Hi Mary,
Thanks for writing! We do hire outside web people (ours is no longer freelancing) so I don’t have any recommendations right now. Good luck though! xo Amy
Amy!
Awesome green drink! I’ve been playing around with my Vitamix and green drinks this summer too. I just LOVE IT.
I’m a big fan of Stevia as well and wondering what brand of stevia you are using? you mentioned raw green stevia powder. Right now i’m using a white powder and while it’s yummy, it’s white/processed which does not excite me. Please share and sending love sweet yoga Sag sis!

Hey Sag sister!
So glad you like the recipe – did you make it already? That was fast! The stevia I got was an organic green powder in the bulk section at Whole Foods here in Boulder. I have never seen it packaged, so I was pleased to find it at all. I will say the flavor is a bit funky compared to the white processed stuff, so go easy on the amount you use. And for this drink the coconut manna is sweetening too. I also have added almond butter for a nuttier flavor and that worked well too! Big hugs to you, woman!
Can’t wait to see what you all think of this #healthy green milkshake I invented! http://t.co/P95Zo7Y5 Please re-tweet!

Amy thank you! I just got into green smoothies last month…I have been drinking the same one everyday so thank you for helping me mix it up. Coconut butter, interesting. Never thought of that in a smoothie. YUM! Lots of light to you, as you share your light so well. xoox
You are so welcome, Sarah! The idea of green juice and coconut butter is definitely wierd – but it works somehow with the addition of the raw nut milk! Actually coconut butter in smoothies is much more common – I think you’ll enjoy it either way. Thanks so much for the comment and kind words. xoxoxox
Hi Amy! That looks/sounds amazing. I’m definitely trying it, I love green smoothies, but I usually improvise on the fly and forget to write recipe down unless I make it a few times. Question: does the coconut butter get “clumpy” with the ice cubes? That’s been my experience with using coconut butter in the past. Thanks so much!
Hey Danielle, So glad you are going to try it! Hopefully you can print this blog out so you have the recipe handy. So yes, the coconut butter can get clumpy/hardened with the ice cubes. What you can do is blend everything smooth before adding the ice, and then add the ice for a final blending and see if that helps. Enjoy!
So do you have an opinion about the need for a juicer if you have a good blender? I have a juicer but feel I’m wasting a lot of pulp and good ingredients.
This looks yummy.
I hear you – the advantage of juicing is that you can pound through so much more veggies than what you could physically consume from a blender. (When I juice it is literally a colander overflowing with produce that would never all fit in my belly). And you are getting the “essence” and massive nutritional content of that many more veggies drinking the juice. You can still get fiber from eating salads or adding some veggies to your blended drinks at other times. The juicing pulp does go to waste, but if you compost it’s not so bad, and some people even make dehydrated crackers with the pulp and flax seeds. Hope that helps.
Amy, what is your source for raw green stevia, liquid and/or powder? I either can’t find or the online description does not indicate the color. I have learned to truly be unprocessed, it should br green.
Hey Phyllis – nice to hear from you! I have never found raw green Stevia packaged. I recently found it in the bulk section of Whole Foods here in Boulder. It was organic and green in powder form. Let me know if you can find it!
Looks like a good shake for cyclists, too! Yum! http://t.co/FM4MyeqA
Indeed!!
Made it today. Used a tiny dash of agave instead of stevia…so good!
thanks for the recipe.

Awesome, Andra!! Way to get on that! So glad you enjoyed. xo

Yum! I had some chard and beet greens that needed juicing and this makes that particular blend of greens MUCH more palatable. Thanks for the ideas!
